Bye Bye Miss Whitney Houston

When I was young, my primary school music teacher taught me that music is the language of the soul. It was a deep and vast meaning which at that time I did not really understand but nevertheless believed in, because, like the music itself, it sounded so meaningful and so real. But as I grew older, I learned that music is basically a combination of sounds that have rhythm, melody, and harmony. Still a complex meaning, but not as perplexing to me as the language of the soul.

The exact meaning of the term "soul" is not always clear in books of meaning. However, I was taught by the Holy Scriptures that the soul is the breath of God. It has no beginning and no end, just like God. It is the core of each and every living thing, and without the soul, a form of life is nothing more than a lifeless mass of matter. The self that lives within a person's body is truly the soul.

God is love, and love, like God, music, and soul, is a difficult word to define. In addition, love is very much associated with happiness, which is everyone’s goal. But love, when touched and contaminated by material nature, takes on another form; and that form is the reflected, perverted, blinding form of lust.

According to Vedic literature, "in the spiritual realm, every sound is a musical sound," and music is the most refined and finest form of art in the material plane. Few individuals possess the talent of music, and not every musician can sing like an angel. Furthermore, few current pop divas of our period possess the same beauty, charm, strength, and soul as the late Whitney Houston.

For a singer to be able to relate to his/her audience' heart is to sing from the heart by which the soul resides. There is no doubt that the newly passed away belter Miss Houston (Feb. 11, 2012) sings from the heart; and the proof is her haunting cover rendition of the song “I will Always Love You”, which I believe to be one of the sweetest love song ever recorded. In addition, one can truly sing from the heart if one truly feel and understand the meaning of the song.

"From great power comes great responsibility." -Knowing where power is coming from, "What we sow, so shall we reap." -Some songs, like trees of bitter fruits of frustration and despair, are offensive to God’s teaching. "What profits a man if he gains the whole world but loses his soul?" The parts and parcels of God, the individual conditioned, minute, insignificant souls, are not the greatest. Moreover, the inherent natural tendency to love oneself is not the greatest love of all. Self-love is selfish and the least of all the love.

The greatest love is the love that is given or focused on the true one and only greatest living being. The one who is known as God, the Supreme Person. He is the cause of all causes, He is the origin of all things, love originates from Him. "Love God with all your heart, your whole mind, your entire being." This is the most profound affection; this is the greatest love of all.
